One week after Hutchinson notched its first 4-0 start since 2009, the Salthawks fell to Andover 14-7.

Hutchinson wasn’t originally supposed to play against the Trojans. The Salthawks original schedule had them facing Derby in a battle of 6A powerhouses but due to Covid-19, Derby had shut down football for two weeks.

So Hutch picked up a game against one of the premier defenses in the area in the Trojans led by senior Isaiah Maikori.

Coming into the game the Trojans had planned to slow down the fast Hutchinson run game.

“Our coaches had an amazing game plan with multiple looks to slow down their offense,” Maikori said.

In a game that started off slow due to turnovers from both teams, the Salthawks were able to strike first with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Myles Thompson to Noah Kokhar with 11 seconds left in the first half.

After the Trojan defense got a stop coming out after halftime, the offense was able to get it going off a 57-yard Maikori receiving touchdown from quarterback Brady Strausz.

Thanks to a Max Middleton rushing touchdown, the Trojans grabbed their first lead at 14-7.

And a Maikori interception would put the cherry on top for the Trojans as they were able to ruin the perfect season that Hutch had planned.

“This was a really big win for us giving Hutch their first loss and getting back to our style of play,” Maikori said.

The Trojans move to 3-2 and the Salthawks are 4-1.

Maize stays undefeated after a 58-13 win over Salina South. Senior Josh Sanders scored four touchdowns which adds to his already impressive senior season. The Eagles are 5-0.

Wichita Northwest took care of business against North 92-0.

East beat Heights 16-13 in a game where Heights gave East a run for their money. It was the first time East was scored on all year, but to no avail the Aces were able to pull out the victory.

Senior Darius Cooper and the rest of the East defense was able to slow down the Heights Falcon run game.

Andale cruised past Hesston 66-7 to move to 5-0.

Collegiate gets the win on homecoming, beating Trinity Academy 55-14 to stay undefeated.

Clearwater took care business over Halstead 35-18.

Maize South beat Newton 30-10 after a week off due to Covid. Maize South moves to 3-1.
