Gradey Dick from Sunrise Christian Academy was named the National Gatorade Player of the Year Tuesday afternoon. Dick, who is the No. 8 player in the country according to ESPN, has signed to play at Kansas.
Dick averages nearly 18 points per game for Sunrise, which is one of the top high school programs in the country.
Past recipients of the Gatorade award include current NBA players LeBron James, Jayson Tatum and Karl-Anthony, as well as the late Kobe Bryant.
Previous winners have combined for five NBA MVP awards, 76 All-Star Game appearances, 14 NBA championships and 27 NBA first-round draft picks.
Tatum virtually surprised Dick with the award Tuesday. Dick will also be playing in the McDonald’s High School All-American Game on March 29.
