Multicon Construction Player Profile – Derby’s Derek Hubbard

There is never a lack of excitement coming into a new season for Derby High School and their fans. This season head coach Brandon Clark has a few adjustments to make but is confident his guys can get the job done.

One player looking to step up and take on more responsibility is running back Derek Hubbard. Hubbard, a 5-foot-8, 170-pound junior has shown he can be a go-to player in the backfield for Derby. His passion for the game and his teammates drives him to leave every ounce of energy on the field.

“I love how close we all are, it’s like we are a real family,” said Hubbard. “I’m hoping we can go back to the state championship this year and win.”

A 12-year veteran of the gridiron, Hubbard also runs track with the Shocker Track Club. Sports have played a big role in his life, but his family plays a larger part in helping Hubbard become the person he is today.

“My mom and brothers are a huge influence on everything I do,” said Hubbard.

Something Hubbard said he loves about Derby is the support he sees from the community.

“I love how supportive the community is to our team,” said Hubbard.

Once his high school playing days are over, Hubbard said he would like to attend college and become a physical therapist.
