2022 Class 2A State Football Championship Recap (Presented by Visit Wichita)

Nemaha Central had its hands full taking on an undefeated and hungry Kingman team.

But the Thunder were victorious as they won the Class 2A title 33-17.

“The work started back in summer workouts and each and every kid bought in and finished the job to cap off the undefeated season,” Nemaha Central coach Michael Glatczack said.

Coming into the game, Glatczack emphasized his team’s need to convert on offense because of Kingman’s ability to defend. Kingman entered the game holding teams to seven points per game.

This didn’t turn out to be a problem, though, as Cooper Hajek ran for four touchdowns and 212 rushing yards as Nemaha Central put up 33 points.

“Cooper is an absolute workhorse in the backfield. He is a big kid that can move and is hard to bring down,” Glatczack said.

Nemaha Central started off hot with a 14-0 lead thanks to two Hajek touchdowns.

The Thunder led 20-3 at halftime as they looked to cruise their way to the championship win just like back in 2019.

Nemaha scored two more times to go up 33-3.

Kingman showed some life, scoring two touchdowns, but it was too late and the Thunder celebrated a state title for the second time in four years.

“This one was special for many different reasons. As a second-year head coach, I leaned heavily on my assistant coaches and they are the best in the state,” Glatczack said. “The seniors made it easier as they are a bunch of competitors that love to win and come to work day in and day out.
