Parsons’ Wyatt Shultz – Tennis Poll Winner – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Ken Hansard

Senior Wyatt Shultz is entering his final tennis season with the Parsons Vikings determined to build on an already remarkable career. Competing in singles, Shultz has been one of the most consistent players in Kansas 4A tennis, finishing as the state singles runner-up three consecutive years during his freshman, sophomore, and junior campaigns. Last year, he helped lead Parsons to a team state championship.

Shultz posted an impressive 30–4 singles record last season, finishing second at the state tournament. He also captured both the SEK League championship and the regional championship, helping the Vikings win every meet and tournament they entered.

Heading into his senior year, Shultz is determined to leave a lasting legacy on the Viking program, and he sees himself taking on a bigger leadership role for a younger team. “I see my role on this team as a leader and captain to help teach and lead the team.”

While the team will be replacing several experienced players from recent seasons, Shultz believes the group can still compete. “Our team is very young and inexperienced.  After the success of the past three years, we have some tough shoes to fill, but we still have some good kids, and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Individually, Wyatt has focused on improving one key part of his game. “My backhand was lacking, and I’ve tried hard to fix it. It’s coming along really well.”

Shultz was also an All-League and All-State (Honorable Mention) standout on the gridiron for the Vikings.  He carries an impressive 3.7 GPA and is a member of the prestigious National Honors’ Society.

After graduation, Wyatt either to jump straight into the work force, or possibly attend college to study business and start an LLC.
