Valley Center girls soccer player Caleigh Cross believes her best attributes go beyond goals scored or assists recorded.
“I think some of my strengths are my leadership and communication on the field,” Cross said. “I try to lead the team as best as I can by always having a voice and helping keep everyone organized. I also have a good understanding of the field and can read the game well, which helps me find players making runs forward and create scoring opportunities.”
Now a senior, Cross understands the importance of leadership in her role as a captain—not just for the 2026 Hornets, but for the future of the program as well.
“My primary focus this season was leading by example and helping set the standard for our team culture,” Cross said. “As a senior and captain, I wanted to make sure we all stayed encouraging towards each other and make it enjoyable for everyone.”
While Cross wants the Hornets to be as successful as possible, she is also focused on soaking in every moment with her teammates.
“A successful season for me would be one where we grow as a team, have fun together, and make it a season to remember,” Cross said. “I want us to compete hard, improve every game, and enjoy the process along the way.”
