Last season, Northwest’s Tryston Garrison hit about .300 and pitched roughly 20 innings, primarily out of the bullpen. This year, Garrison is excited to step into a new role as a senior.
“What I’m most excited for is to spend a lot of time with this group of guys that have either been playing together or been friends since middle school and use that team chemistry to win a lot of ballgames,” Garrison said.
Garrison is a pitcher and corner infielder for the Grizzlies and spent a majority of his offseason focusing on pitching.
“With losing our two top arms last year, I knew I would have to step up big-time with pitching. I want to improve my hitting a lot. I’ve gotten off to a slow start at the plate this year, but I’m finding my groove right now, and it’s awesome. I made sure to hit in my spare time, either by myself doing tee work or getting with some of the guys and hitting as a group,” Garrison said.
Garrison and the rest of the Grizzlies have all the motivation they need this season.
“Last year, we had a great season that was sadly cut short in the regional finals by a 10th-inning walk-off loss by one run. I know that also fuels some of the guys because we all wanted that feeling of winning a huge game, and it getting taken away just like that,” Garrison said.
