Andover golfer Brody Fox is closing out a standout high school career defined by consistency, growth and a steady presence in high-pressure moments, while also preparing to continue his golf career at Friends University.
Fox said his goals this season centered on competing at a high level every tournament and helping lead his team in postseason play.
“My primary focus this high school season was to place in every tournament and shoot solid scores under pressure,” Fox said. “I want to accomplish a top 5 at 5A state. A back to back regional win for the team and hopefully a state title with my team.”
A major part of Fox’s game, he said, is his ability to stay mentally steady during long tournament rounds — something he credits as one of his biggest strengths.
“I would say one of my biggest strengths is keeping a positive mindset,” Fox said. “In golf you can’t hit every shot perfect every time. So being able to keep a positive mindset throughout a tournament is a great skill. Also being able to hit the ball far is a positive when you are on the course. Having a good team mentality is also important because we all joke with each other which makes us closer as a team.”
He also pointed to the influence of Andover coach Ryan Harshaw in helping the Trojans maintain composure throughout the season.
“My coach, Ryan Harshaw, has helped our team continue to be positive with course management, talking us through difficult shots, and staying positive even if it’s a bad shot,” Fox said.
Improvement has been a key focus for Fox throughout the year, especially in consistency off the tee and recovery after mistakes.
“I wanted to work on hitting more fairways and greens throughout tournament rounds,” Fox said. “Shooting low scores and being able to comeback after a bad hole is also something I worked on a lot.”
In the offseason, Fox worked with swing coach Seth Bryan to refine his swing mechanics and add distance.
“I worked on swinging my swing and being able to use my body and length to be able to hit the ball farther with my Coach Seth Bryan,” Fox said. “Being able to get up and down from tough situations has helped me become a better golfer all around. I’ve picked up a ton of speed in the off season as well.”
For Fox, success this year is measured both individually and as part of the team.
“A successful season for me would be to continue playing solid golf winning regionals and also having a great run at state this year,” he said. “A successful season for my team would be winning regionals and state!”
