Carson Bachrodt has set a high standard for himself this season, balancing individual goals with a focus on leadership for the Kapaun Mount Carmel boys golf team.
“My primary focus this season is to become a better golfer, but also become the best leader and teammate I can be,” Bachrodt said. “At the start of the year, I had 3 goals: Win 3 tournaments, place top 3 at State, and fire a round of 65 or better.”
Those goals have been backed by consistent results, including multiple top finishes and a steady scoring average throughout the season.
Bachrodt has already claimed victories at the Wichita Collegiate School Invitational, where he shot a 73 to finish first, and the Auggie Navarro City Boys Championship, where he posted rounds of 64 and 66 to win the title. He also tied for first at the Wichita Collegiate Classic with a 67. His current scoring average sits at 73.7.
For Bachrodt, improvement has been driven as much by mindset and effort as by raw talent.
“My strengths are my dedication and my drive that I have to get better,” he said. “This is not only good for me, but also for my team because when they see me striving to get improve, they also want to push themselves.”
A major area of growth this season has been his short game, an aspect he targeted in the offseason with consistent, focused practice.
“I wanted to work on improving my short game the most this season,” Bachrodt said. “I realized I was losing a lot of shots around the greens so I decided to devote a heavy portion of my practice time to my chipping and putting. Whether this was doing putting drills or a chipping game with my teammates, I spent hours every single day doing so.”
That work has helped shape what he considers a successful season both individually and for his team.
“A successful season for me would be winning several tournaments, having a scoring average of 72, and placing top 3 at state as an individual,” he said. “For our team, I would say a successful season would be winning several tournaments as well as the most important one, the State Championship.”
