Cam White believes last season changed the way opponents view Neodesha football.
After helping the Blue Streaks prove they could compete with larger schools in 2025, White enters his upcoming season with heightened expectations — both for himself and for a program that no longer considers itself an underdog.
“We’re excited about being a known team to watch out for,” White said. “After being a small 3A team and not being taken very seriously in some of our games, I would hope after last season and some of the games we put up with bigger schools will help us take care of some of the schools on our schedule this year.”
White will once again be counted on as one of Neodesha’s most versatile players after contributing on offense, defense and special teams a year ago. He carried the ball 86 times for 420 yards, caught 21 passes for 265 yards and finished with 1,135 all-purpose yards. Defensively, he averaged 12.7 tackles per game and totaled 114 tackles while also handling kickoff duties, averaging 44 yards per kickoff with two touchbacks.
His production earned him all-league honors at defensive back, second-team all-league recognition at running back, first-team all-district honors at defensive back and honorable mention all-state accolades.
White has spent the offseason making sure he is ready to build on that success. Between team weightlifting sessions, football camps and position-specific training after Monday workouts, he has focused on sharpening every aspect of his game.
“In the offseason I have been attending weights and as many football camps as I can, also going to position-specific training after weights on Mondays,” White said.
While his numbers suggest a standout defender, White believes there is still room for improvement, particularly in pass coverage.
“I have been wanting to fix my pass coverage the most this year,” he said. “At my football camps my biggest worry was getting back into reading my tackles and guards and deciding pass or run and how to get into my coverage.”
White’s goals reflect the confidence surrounding the Bluestreaks entering the season. He believes the schedule presents an opportunity for Neodesha to put together a special year.
“Some goals for the team this year is to go 8-0, which is very possible with the schedule we have been given and what our team has the ability to do this year,” White said. “Individually, I want to log another 100-plus tackle season with a few interceptions mixed in there, as well as rush for 1,000 yards on the ground.”
