With a returning state qualifier leading the way and five additional letter-winners back in the lineup, the Liberal girls golf team enters the season believing it can make significant strides.
The Redskins are looking to put together one of their most successful seasons in several years under coach Bert Luallen.
Junior Scarlett Carr will be at the center of those hopes after qualifying for the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 6A State Tournament last season. Carr returns as the team captain and is expected to provide leadership to a Liberal roster that features plenty of returning experience.
“Scarlett Carr, Junior, is a returning KSHSAA 6A State Tournament Qualifier,” Luallen said. “She is our Team Captain and expect for her to lead the Lady Redskins to their best season in several years.”
Carr also has her sights set on continued improvement individually. Luallen said the Redskins are looking for Carr to consistently shoot in the 90s and potentially break into the upper 80s during the upcoming season.
While Liberal may face an uphill battle in its conference and substate competitions, Luallen believes the Redskins have the pieces to make meaningful progress.
“We’re looking to have one of our most successful seasons our program has had in several years,” Luallen said. “We may not win our conference and/or sub-state, but we believe we will do much better than we have in several seasons.”
With Carr’s state tournament experience and five other returning letter-winners, Liberal will look to turn that experience into a stronger season from start to finish.
For the Redskins, the goal is not simply to improve individually but to establish a program capable of competing at a higher level.
