Newton’s Victor Galvan – Soccer Poll Winner – Presented by Visit Wichita

Newton’s Victor Galvan said one of the things he is looking forward to most is sharing the season with the players who have grown up alongside him.

“I am most excited to play with my teammates because they are the guys I grew up with,” Galvan said. “And to play in our home stadium because of the fans and the passion they bring to our team.”

The Railer standout has spent the offseason working to prepare himself physically and mentally for the challenges ahead. Galvan participated in multiple individual and team training sessions while maintaining a daily weightlifting routine.

He also worked with college coach Jose Rojas as he prepared not only for the upcoming high school season, but for the next level as well.

“I’ve had multiple individual and team trainings that have helped me improve,” Galvan said. “I’ve also been lifting every day and working with a college coach, Jose Rojas, to prepare for the season and to also get myself mentally focused for this season.”

One of Galvan’s biggest priorities during the offseason has been becoming a more complete player. He focused on improving his weaker foot and adding strength, two areas he believes will help him both this season and as he continues preparing for a potential college career.

“Some areas that I’ve focused on this offseason were working on my weak foot and getting bigger to not only prepare myself for this upcoming high school season but also for college,” Galvan said.

Galvan said his work has included specific training days devoted to his weaker foot, with the goal of becoming more comfortable using both feet in a variety of situations.

“I’ve been lifting every day and also having specific training days dedicated to working on my weak foot and using it just as much as my strong foot during individual and team training,” he said.

With the season approaching, Galvan has set ambitious goals for himself. Individually, he hopes to earn first-team honors and significantly increase his production from a year ago.

“My individual goals for this season are to get all first-team honors and to double my stats,” Galvan said.

But Galvan’s biggest goal is one shared by the entire Newton program: another trip to the state tournament.

“My team goal is to go back to state,” he said.
