Shawnee Heights’ KK Emmot – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance – Dave Tew

That Shawnee Heights sophomore KK Emmot is putting up big scoring numbers shouldn’t surprise anyone who watched her play last year.

As a freshman she averaged a team-high 13.5 points, hit 35 three-pointers, shot 75% from the free-throw line and was second team All-United Kansas Conference. She was honorable mention All-Class 5A. She also averaged 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

In three games, Emmot showed she’s still a go-to for offense, scoring 24, 27 and 23 points. On Dec. 17, she had seven three-pointers against Lansing.

“I love the sport of basketball,” Emmot said. “It’s exciting, and (I love) the feeling after making a shot or pass or finishing out a play completely.”

As for the best part of her game, Emmot said that it’s finishing out a play and making three-pointers. Her ability to catch and shoot has caught the attention of college recruiters.

But she also understands that she’s got room for improvement.

“I want to continue to improve on defense,” she said. “You can always improve your speed and agility on defense more than anything in basketball.”

She puts in the work, playing for the 15U Phenom EYBL.

“That has developed me into a way faster-paced player all around,” Emmot said.

The goal is to keep pushing.

“I’m really dedicated to this sport I love, and I have a lot of passion,” she said.
