Smoky Valley’s Kenzley Haxton – Student of the Month – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Matt Browning

As a three-sport athlete, Smoky Valley’s Kenzley Haxton understands the importance of taking care of her body in order to prevent injury.

From what she consumes to how to she prepares before games, Haxton is cognizant of how important it is to be healthy.

“It’s really beneficial to be hydrated and eat a balanced diet,” Haxton said. “To avoid injuries and improve performance during every sporting season and pay attention to my physical health.”

The business of the seasons can sometimes lead to athletes laxing on how they recover from the wear and tear of practices and games.

Not Haxton.

“Every Wednesday, I take a 10-minute ice bath as a specialized activity to help reduce soreness and discomfort,” Haxton said. “When you’re busy with practices and games, it helps organize your week. Pre-practice and post-practice stretches are also crucial for reducing pressure.”

Sometimes Haxton finds it challenging to be a three-sport athlete, but she is honest with her coaches about what she focuses on during the specific seasons.

“By being honest with coaches and focusing on your main sport preparation for that season, I am able to manage being a multisport athlete,” Haxton said. “Additionally, make sure you stay at a consistent level of fitness for all sports while, as necessary, peaking for each particular season.”
