Wichita West High School senior X’Zaivous Evans is stepping into his final season with high expectations and is ready to prove to any doubters that they are wrong. A versatile athlete who plays middle linebacker, running back, and halfback, Evans is determined to prove that West is a force to be reckoned with.
“My individual goals this year are to have a combined 700 yards and at least 30 tackles,” Evans shared with Vype Magazine. “My team goal this year is to show everyone who doubts West that we will succeed.”
Evans is especially excited for the matchups against Wichita South and Wichita Southeast. Both are games that always bring out the competitive edge in the team. To prepare for these games and the season, Evans spent the offseason dedicated to becoming a more complete player. He’s focused on improving his lateral movement, explosive power through plyometrics, weight training, and even dropping weight to stay agile. His ability to contribute on both sides of the ball will be a key asset this year for West.
One highlight from last season that stands out to him is a fumble recovery during the North game. “It’s something I never thought would happen.”
Outside of football, Evans is active in track and field, competing as a short-distance sprinter and throwing in shot put and javelin. Looking ahead to next fall, he hopes to continue his football career at the college level, with Pittsburgh State University as his top choice. He plans to study Business Economics and eventually build a future beyond the field.
With leadership, dedication, and a strong drive to prove himself, X’Zaivous Evans is set to make a major impact for Wichita West this season.
