Kyden Thompson, McPherson HS – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Advanced Physical Therapy

By Hayden Swope

McPherson’s Kyden Thompson has been nothing short of a basketball weapon for the Bullpups. As a junior last season, Thompson averaged 12 points per game, was the 4A Division III Player of the Year, and was first team all-league.

Thompson has been eager to get back on the court and spent the offseason preparing in any way he could.

“I spent most of the offseason lifting weights and eating to get stronger,” Thompson said. “I also spent a lot of gym time working on my outside shots because I know I need to shoot more outside shots. Those are my two main weaknesses.”

While Thompson has a goal that every high school athlete has, he also hopes to grow as a player this year.

“This season I want to win the state championship,” Thompson said. “I would also love to get 4A Player of the Year. On my stats, my goal is to average seven assists, 20 points, and five rebounds.”

With this being Thompson’s last season as a Bullpup, he hopes to make the most of it. While this season will bring endless memories, a favorite of Thompson’s happened just recently.

“My favorite memory so far was beating Meige in the semi’s last year then playing in the state championship game,” Thompson said.

Thompson hopes to grow his love for basketball after high school, but is undecided as to where.

“Future plans are to play basketball in college,” Thompson said. “I don’t have a college in mind yet, as I am waiting to see how the season goes and what offers I get.”
