Salina Central junior Kaylie Shultz is no stranger to success on the cross country course, and this season she’s aiming even higher. A standout distance runner, Shultz has set her sights on qualifying for the state meet both individually and with her team. A goal well within reach thanks to months of focused preparation and strong leadership.
Shultz’s main goals this season are qualifying for state and continuing to improve through practice and at every meet. In addition to personal improvement, Shultz is focused on supporting teammates and helping the team succeed together.
Currently ranked third in their regional site, Salina Central’s girls’ cross country team is in prime position to punch a ticket to state. Shultz, who was the League and Regional Champion last year, says she’s especially excited for the regional meet this season. “I am excited to experience that journey with my teammates and see how far we can go,” she shared with Vype Magazine.
To prepare for this season of cross country, Shultz spent her offseason training with Distance Inc., a Salina-based high school running group. She also incorporated strength training and plyometrics to improve performance and stay injury-free. Her dedication shows in her continued success and leadership on and off the course.
Beyond running, Shultz is the Junior Class Vice President at Salina Central and a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, plans include running at the Division I level in college and pursuing a degree in Sports Nutrition.
With her combination of talent, work ethic, and team spirit, Kaylie Shultz is a name to watch as the championship season unfolds.
