Colby High School senior Jordan Jones enters his final season as one of the top guards in Kansas 3A basketball, and he’s setting his goals as high as his work ethic. A dynamic point guard and proven scorer, Jones is aiming for 3A Player of the Year honors, a state championship, and a career milestone of joining the 1,000-point club, being only about 100 points away.
Jones is energized by the new look of his team. After graduating a large senior class last year, Colby will feature several new faces, but for Jones, that’s part of the excitement. “I can’t wait to play with the guys I’ve grown up with,” he said.
His preparation for this season was intense. Jones spent at least five days a week in the gym, attended multiple college camps, and competed on the AAU circuit throughout the summer. That dedication paid off as he has earned interest from multiple Division II programs, along with NAIA and JUCO offers.
Last season, Jones averaged an impressive 19 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds per game. He was named All-State Honorable Mention, GWAC All-League First Team, Topside Tipoff First Team, and Orange and Black Classic First Team. All awards he values highly, especially given the strength of the GWAC, one of the toughest leagues in 3A.
While still undecided on his college choice, Jones plans to study pre-medicine to become a surgeon. Beyond basketball, he is a standout track athlete. He is a state champion and school record holder in the 300m hurdles (38.27), and a part of the runner-up 4×400 relay team. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
With experience, drive, and a senior season full of opportunity, Jones is ready to lead Colby to new heights.
