By Hayden Swope

As the new wrestling season approaches, Avei’yeah Wilson of Wichita East has been putting in extra time and effort toward her preparation; both on and off the mat.

“This season I’m taking more time to get mentally and physically prepared for the upcoming season, I’m putting more dedication and focus towards school work and myself,” Wilson said.

With her goals set high, Wilson is determined to push herself and her teammates toward a championship finish.

“My goal this season is to grind and accomplish a state championship,” Wilson said.

What excites Wilson most is the opportunity to lead and guide a new wave of athletes as they join the team.

“This season I’m excited for all the newcomers so I can be able to be a good advocate on why they should see wrestling through,” Wilson said.

Wilson is eager to test herself again against some familiar faces in the near future.

“I can’t wait to see the girls I competed against as everyone comes back differently,” Wilson said.

Looking ahead, Wilson already has her future mapped out beyond high school.

“My future plans are to join the National Guard and go to school for radiology,” Wilson said.
