Abby Brenn of Winfield is entering the season focused, and is building the mindset it takes to compete at a high level.
“So far it’s just been getting back into routine, conditioning, and preparing to be in that mat ready mind set,” Brenn said. “I think the main thing I tried to work on this year is diversifying my offense just so I got more move in my pocket.”
With big expectations ahead, Brenn’s goals are grounded in daily improvement.
“Of course my main goal is to win state again but overall I want to know that I have done everything to the best of my ability and improve day by day,” Brenn said.
What fuels Brenn is the shared energy that comes with every hard-fought match throughout the long season.
“Whether it’s mine or a teammates win, I love seeing the post-match celebrations with your team after a really exciting or hard match. The energy and excitement is all there,” Brenn said.
When she looks back on her wrestling career so far, one special victory rises above all the others.
“Most memorable so far would be winning state and getting to celebrate with my dad and my team,” Brenn said. “Getting to that spot and then having everyone from the community there who supported you from the practice partners to team sponsors really gives you a view of how hard you have worked.”
