For a school the size of Norwich, having 55 members in its FFA program is remarkable.
Sponsor Lacie Harshbarger believes the program’s high level of involvement appeals to both veteran and novice students.
“Norwich FFA stays active throughout the year, attending at least one Career Development Event per month, encouraging our members to serve the community through various service projects, participating in additional events to explore agricultural careers, and advocating for agriculture within our school,” Harshbarger said.
Becoming a member of Norwich’s FFA program is easy.
“Getting involved in FFA at Norwich is simple — students just need to enroll in an agricultural education course,” Harshbarger said. “Students who enroll in an agricultural education course are automatically enrolled in FFA through the affiliate program.”
Norwich’s FFA chapter includes students from a wide range of agricultural backgrounds.
“Our members include traditional agriculture students who work or live on farms, as well as nontraditional students who do not live or work on a farm,” Harshbarger said.
Norwich FFA students compete not only locally against other Kansas schools, but also at broader levels.
“This year alone, Norwich FFA members have placed in several Career Development Events,” Harshbarger said. “Three students applied for their American Degree, and another three applied for their State FFA Degree.”
