After another offseason of preparation and hard work, Andale linebacker Parker Lies is eager to return to the field and compete under the Friday night lights with his teammates.
For Lies, the excitement comes from more than just playing football. It is about representing a community that continues to support the Indians and being part of a team with high expectations.
“I’m most excited to be able to run out on that field again with my teammates during Friday Night Lights, especially on our home field,” Lies said. “We are ready to show just how much work we have put in over the summer. Our community here at Andale is awesome and so supportive of all of us.”
Lies has spent the offseason preparing himself physically and mentally for the upcoming season. He attended football camps, participated in Andale’s summer workouts and continued putting in extra work even during breaks from organized team activities.
“I went to a couple of football camps this summer to improve my fundamentals and get more exposure,” Lies said. “I have also attended our high school football camps and workout training throughout the summer to keep in shape and push myself to get bigger and stronger.”
Lies also made sure he continued developing his skills outside of scheduled practices. During dead weeks, he worked with teammates on individual drills, including route running and strength training.
“All of the extra work has helped me become stronger, faster and more prepared for the upcoming season,” Lies said.
One of Lies’ biggest areas of focus has been improving at linebacker. He attended camps at Kansas State and Missouri Western to sharpen his defensive skills and gain instruction from college coaches.
“I went to K-State and Missouri Western’s football camps during the offseason to work on my fundamentals and I have been watching a lot of film, even from last year,” Lies said.
Lies has also taken an active approach to improving by seeking feedback from his coaches.
“My parents recorded drills at the camps that I went to and I would send those to my coaches asking to be critiqued,” Lies said.
Last season, Lies made an impact on the defensive side of the ball for Andale. He recorded 45 total tackles, including 24 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles. He also added two interceptions and a blocked punt while earning All-League honorable mention recognition.
Entering the season, Lies has set several individual goals, including earning All-State first-team non-senior honors on offense and defense, along with All-League recognition. He is also hoping his performance on the field leads to opportunities at the next level.
However, Lies’ biggest goals remain centered around team success.
“Of course, our team goals are to extend our winning streak and win another State Championship,” Lies said.
