Andover’s Ada Tantemsomboon – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Jodi Ocadiz Shelter Insurance

Andover’s Ada Tantemsomboon will represent the Trojans as a singles player this season, after playing doubles and winning state last season. This season will give her an opportunity to test herself in a different role while helping Andover pursue another state championship.

“I am most excited to represent my school as a singles player this year after playing doubles the last few years,” Tantemsomboon said.

Although her role on the court is changing, one thing that remains the same is the importance of her teammates. Tantemsomboon said the Andover team has always been a close-knit group, making practices, road trips and team dinners some of her favorite parts of the season.

“We always have fun with each other, especially at team dinners,” she said.

Tantemsomboon has put considerable work into preparing for her senior season. During the offseason, she trained with a group of high-level players through a High Performance program that included drills, match play, mental training and athletic development.

She also traveled to Thailand during the summer, where she had the opportunity to practice and compete alongside advanced and national-level players.

Her physical preparation has been just as demanding. Tantemsomboon strength trains four to five times a week while incorporating functional training, mobility and plyometrics. She has also focused on nutrition to help with recovery, fueling and overall performance.

As she transitions to singles, Tantemsomboon is focused on developing another important part of her game: her mentality.

“This year, I want to improve my mentality and build more trust in myself on the court,” she said.

She has worked toward that goal by putting herself in match-like situations during practices and competing in USTA tournaments. Tantemsomboon has also spent significant time working with her coach to build confidence and prepare for different situations she may encounter during matches.

The Trojans enter the season with a championship standard. Andover has won five consecutive state team titles, and Tantemsomboon hopes to help extend that streak in her final season.

“Evidently, I would like to win my own matches, but I also hope to finish my last year of high school tennis with no regrets, while also enjoying the process,” Tantemsomboon said.

Tantemsomboon enters the season with plenty of momentum after an outstanding junior campaign. She and her doubles partner finished 31-0 last season and captured the Class 5A state doubles championship.

Now, with a new challenge ahead, Tantemsomboon is looking to make the most of her final season in an Andover uniform.

“Every season I’ve been a part of, as well as tennis in general, has taught me more about myself, and I aim to continue that as I move forward,” she said.
