As Camille Avila enters her senior year at Andover High School, she’s not just thinking about her final season of volleyball, she’s aiming high. A standout outside hitter, Avila has helped lead her team to state the past two seasons and has her eyes set on making it three years in a row. But beyond the wins, her focus is on growth, intensity, and enjoying every moment.
“This year, I’m really working on making more aggressive and smart plays,” Avila said. “But most of all, I hope we all have fun and go all in.”
She’s especially excited for long tournament days, her personal favorite. Also, the much-anticipated game against Kapaun Mt. Carmel is on the top of the list of opponents Avila is looking forward to playing. Last season’s thriller ended with Andover edging them out 42-40 in the third set. And of course, there’s no shortage of motivation for the team when facing cross-town rival Andover Central.
Avila has put in serious work during the offseason, training with her club coach Corey Quandt and former WSU standout Jodi Larson. She also attended the Junior Day Volleyball Camp in Oklahoma to gain exposure and connect with college coaches.
Last season, Avila earned 2nd Team All-League, 3rd Team All-Metro, and was second on the team in kills. “I was so proud of myself,” she reflected. “I stepped up so much and felt more confident as the season went on.”
While she’s not committed to a college yet, Avila is open to continuing her volleyball journey at the colligate level. Off the court, she plans to major in biology on a pre-med track in hopes to become a CRNA in the PICU or a dermatologist.
