Bishop Ward’s Salvador Dominguez Jr – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Preferred Physical Therapy Gladstone

Senior Salvador Dominguez Jr is ready to make his final season at Bishop Ward High School one to remember. The senior left fielder is motivated by both loyalty and legacy as he prepares to take the field with teammates he has battled alongside for the past four years.

“What I’m looking forward to most is playing one more season with the guys I’ve spent the last four years with through ups and downs,” Dominguez said. After graduating a large senior class and seeing one key player transfer, expectations from the outside may be lower, but that only fuels his drive. “People don’t expect us to do good, and I just want to prove them wrong and show we’re still the Ward baseball everyone knows. Just with a little more grit.”

Dominguez put in significant work during the offseason, attending winter workouts and spending extra time at the facility whenever possible. His dedication in the weight room helped him add five pounds of muscle while continuing to grow physically. He has focused heavily on improving his power at the plate and sharpening his fielding, taking advantage of every opportunity for extra reps.

His production last season speaks for itself. Dominguez posted a .604 on-base percentage, 1.163 OPS, and .745 slugging percentage. He tallied 24 hits, including 14 singles, nine doubles, and one triple, while driving in 17 RBIs and scoring 23 runs. With 10 walks, just seven strikeouts, and a perfect 25-for-25 mark in stolen bases, he proved to be a dynamic offensive threat.

This season, Dominguez hopes to increase his batting average and home run total while helping his team compete and have fun. After graduation, he is considering trade school to pursue welding, while remaining open to college opportunities.
