Buhler High School senior Allison Johnson is making the most of her final cross country season, cherishing the moments that come with being part of a close-knit team. For Johnson, this year has been all about enjoying her remaining time in the sport she loves while continuing to grow as both an athlete and a person.

“My goals for this season were to enjoy my short time left in cross country,” Johnson said. “I love spending time with my teammates, running, and making myself better through the sports that I do.”

One of her favorite parts of the season has been the overnight meets, which offer great opportunities for team bonding and higher-level competition. Among all the events, the Rim Rock meet stands out as her favorite. “I enjoyed the challenge of the hills and achieving my race goals,” she shared.

Johnson’s passion for running extends beyond the season itself. She especially enjoyed morning practices over the summer, where returning and new athletes began preparing for the upcoming season together. The team also traveled to Iowa for a cross country camp, a highlight that strengthened friendships and built team chemistry.

Over her four years on the team, Johnson has seen tremendous growth. She has cut over nine and a half minutes off her 5K time since her freshman year. An achievement that shows her dedication and perseverance.

Outside of cross country, Johnson also participates in track and band, balancing her time between athletics and the arts. After graduation, she plans to attend Hutchinson Community College, though she hasn’t yet decided on a major.

As she nears the finish line of her high school career, Allison Johnson’s journey reflects determination, teamwork, and a deep love for the sport of running.
