The Cheney boys basketball team went 16-6 last season under head coach Linndy Frieden, losing to Haven in the Class 3A semifinals.
The Cardinals have an experienced team of six seniors and four juniors, Frieden is excited to see what success comes the team’s way this season.
“I think we will be athletic and should be able to shoot the ball well most of the time,” Frieden said.
With the Cardinal football team still playing into middle November and the fall and winter seasons overlapping, training and conditioning will be a swift adjustment for the athletes.
“We will try to get better each day,” Frieden said. “We might get a late start to the season because of the deep run our football team is making.”
With a few weaknesses heading into the season, Frieden knows the boys are going to have to step up to win those important regular season games.
“We have to be able to rebound the basketball each night if we are going to be successful,” Frieden said.
With the state tournament on their minds, Frieden and the Cardinals have big goals and accomplishments they hope to achieve.
“I think the goal is to be playing our best basketball in March as we prepare for postseason play,” Frieden said. “We will try to play full court man defense and push the ball on offense.”
