For Perry Haines, the excitement surrounding the upcoming season at Circle High School has as much to do with the people around her as it does with what happens on the court.
Haines is looking forward to taking the court with a group of teammates she knows well and building on the experience they have gained together.
“I’m most excited for the girls I’m playing with and the experience we all have!” Haines said.
That shared experience has been a major part of Haines’ offseason preparation. She has spent time in the weight room while also attending showcases and camps, all with the goal of becoming a more complete player.
“I’ve been doing a lot of training in the weight room, and a few showcases and camps to improve my overall game,” Haines said.
One of Haines’ biggest priorities heading into the season is improving her ability to put the ball exactly where she wants it. She has also worked to become a versatile option on both pins, giving Circle another player capable of contributing in multiple areas.
“I want to improve on really placing the ball right where I want it,” Haines said. “I worked really hard this offseason to become a better versatile player on both pins to showcase my court vision for open spots.”
That versatility could allow Haines to contribute wherever Circle needs her most. Rather than focusing on one specific role, she is embracing whatever responsibility her coach gives her.
“Goals I have individually are excelling where my coach needs me to be, and playing that spot with all my heart and effort I can give,” Haines said.
While individual improvement is important, Haines’ biggest goal extends beyond her own performance. She wants to help Circle make a postseason run alongside the teammates who have made the experience special.
“As a team, my goal is to go to state with the girls I love to play with!” Haines said.
With an offseason focused on strength, skill development and becoming a more versatile player, Haines enters the season prepared to embrace whatever role Circle needs — and determined to make the most of the opportunity with her teammates.
