Clay Center’s Addy Pladson, Lily Edwards and Raimee Lipker – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Gurney Grafix, KCLY, and Justin Tadtman Farm Bureau Financial Services

Clay Center High School seniors Addy Pladson, Lily Edwards and Raimee Lipker have found much more than competition through athletics. The relationships, shared goals and daily commitment that come with being part of a team have shaped their final year as student-athletes.

Pladson especially appreciates the people around her in the Clay Center program. From practices to games, she enjoys competing with teammates who create an energetic and encouraging environment.

“I enjoy the friendships I’ve made and getting to compete alongside people who make every practice and game fun!” Pladson said.

For Pladson, the team’s common purpose is one of the sport’s best qualities.

“I love that we all have the same goal. Everyone wants to win and improve every day. It’s really fun getting to play with people who care and want to work just as hard as you,” Pladson said.

Edwards said the values she has developed through sports will continue to matter long after her high school career ends.

“Athletics have taught me the importance of hard work, dedication, teamwork, and not giving up when things get difficult. These lessons will help me later in life because I know that reaching my goals takes effort and a positive attitude.”

Edwards said Lipker and Pladson have had a lasting impact on her high school experience.

“Raimee Lipker and Addy Pladson have left such an impression on me because they have always supported me, encouraged me, and been there for me on and off the court since we first started playing together. They have helped me become a better player and person, and I will always appreciate the memories and friendship we have shared on and off the court!”

Lipker said the team’s chemistry stands out, even as the roster changes each season.

“The thing I love most about my team and teammates is the connection and bond we all have between us. It feels like we’ve been playing together forever but in reality, the team changes every year.”

Lipker identified Lily Edwards as the team’s most vocal player and Maizy Gurney as the teammate most likely to make people laugh. Still, she said Gurney brings more than humor.

“Although Maizy Gurney may be the funniest teammate, we have she also the one that will always be willing to through her body at any ball that comes her way. If there’s a chance she takes it every time.”
