After an early playoff exit last season, Gabe Tarrant and the Conway Springs Cardinals football team are determined to make a deeper postseason run this year, with the veteran running back embracing his role as a leader along the way.
“I am most excited to be with my guys as a leader and to see how our line progresses throughout the year,” Tarrant said.
Tarrant’s offseason was centered on preparing his body for an increased workload. Coming off a hip injury last season, he focused on getting stronger, staying healthy and preparing to carry the majority of the Cardinals’ carries this season.
He added 20 pounds during the offseason while continuing to take care of his hip. Tarrant also credits the Cardinals’ work in the weight room for helping prepare the team for the season.
“We’ve all been in the weight room,” Tarrant said. “We have a lot of leaders in the weight room making all of us better.”
One of Tarrant’s biggest individual priorities this season is durability. He spent the offseason getting stronger, conditioning and remaining consistent with his workouts while also focusing on taking care of his body.
“I also focused on taking care of my body so I can stay healthy and play at my best throughout the season,” Tarrant said.
Tarrant’s individual goals are straightforward. He wants to stay healthy, improve each game and establish himself as someone his teammates can rely on.
For the Cardinals, the goal extends beyond the regular season. Conway Springs wants to work together and make a deep playoff run after last year’s early postseason exit.
“As a team we are excited to see where we can go in playoffs this year after an early exit last year,” Tarrant said.
For Tarrant, the opportunity to experience postseason success with his teammates is especially meaningful. He hopes to help give his teammates a taste of the playoff success that many of them have yet to experience as players.
“A lot of us don’t know that feeling of winning in the playoffs when not being on the sidelines,” Tarrant said. “I’m excited to share that feeling with my teammates.”
