Fort Scott running back Creed Clayton said he is most excited about the chance to share the field with his teammates and experience Friday night football at Frary Field.
“I’m most excited to compete alongside my brothers, represent Fort Scott, and play Friday night football in front of the best hometown fans in the SEK,” Clayton said. “There isn’t a better atmosphere than Frary Field under the lights with our community behind us.”
Fort Scott enters the season with championship aspirations, and Clayton believes the work put in during the offseason has prepared the Tigers for the challenges ahead.
“We’ve put in countless hours this offseason, and now it’s time to let our hard work show,” Clayton said. “We’re hungry to bring another championship back to Fort Scott and make this season one to remember.”
Clayton spent the offseason focused on becoming a more explosive and complete player. His preparation included consistent weight training, speed and agility work, football camps and improving his overall understanding of the game.
“I’ve been lifting consistently, working on speed and agility, attending football camps, and training to become a more explosive running back,” Clayton said. “I’ve also spent time improving my conditioning and learning more about the game so I can be ready in every situation.”
One of Clayton’s biggest areas of focus entering the season has been improving his speed and explosiveness. He dedicated time to sprint work, plyometrics, agility drills and lower-body strength training while also expanding his skill set as a running back.
“I’ve worked on becoming a more complete player by improving my pass protection and receiving skills,” Clayton said.
Clayton enters the season looking to build on a strong junior campaign. Last season, he carried the ball 136 times for 739 yards and seven touchdowns, providing a key offensive presence for the Tigers.
This year, Clayton has set high expectations for himself while keeping his focus on helping Fort Scott achieve team success.
“I want to continue building my résumé as the best running back in Fort Scott High School history,” Clayton said. “My goal is to leave a lasting legacy by breaking school records, helping my team win, earning postseason honors, and setting the standard for future players through my work ethic, leadership, and performance every Friday night.”
