Friday’s Wichita-area high school football games (Sept. 6)

By Blake Chadwick

The Derby Panthers kicked off their season in dominant fashion with a 40-7 win at Hays.

Da’Saahn Brame started the Panthers’ offense with two early touchdown receptions from first-year quarterback Drew Kemp, who introduced himself to the Panthers’ fans with five total touchdowns. Kemp completed 11 of 16 passes for four touchdowns and 105 yards, while also running for 81 yards and a touchdown.

The Panthers’ defense kept up their end of the bargain as they were stifling all night, only giving up seven points, and holding Hays scoreless for the final 37 minutes. and getting the ball back to that dangerous Derby offense.

Maize South starts 1-0 as well after a 56-20 win over Newton.

The Mavericks led 42-6 at halftime.

Andale took care of El Dorado 68-7 as Sam Harp led the way with three total touchdowns and over 200 yards of offense.

In a game that many thought would be tightly contested, Andover Central silenced all doubt early as the Jaguars took care of Hutchinson 37-17 thanks to three touchdowns from quarterback Jace Jefferson to receiver Jace Adler.
