Friday’s Wichita-area high school football scores, stats and recaps (Oct. 18)

By Blake Chadwick

In the game of the night, the undefeated Eisenhower Tigers traveled to face Andover Central and quickly found themselves in an early 14-0 deficit.

The Tigers fought back, tying the game at 14-all, setting the stage for an intense battle as both teams traded scores.

Eisenhower eventually took its first lead at 26-21. However, Andover Central reached the end zone in the fourth quarter to secure a 27-26 lead to give the Tigers their first loss.

Both teams are 6-1.

Salina South ended its 30-game losing streak with a 42-23 win over Campus.

After a tough loss to their crosstown rivals last week, the Maize South Mavericks hit the road to face the Derby Panthers, aiming to bounce back with a win.

The Panthers, of course, had different plans as they took a 51-0 lead in the first half.

Derby won 51-7 and added to its impressive resume with only one more regular season game left.

Derby quarterback Drew Kemp completed 7 of 9 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Da’Saahn Brame. Kemp also had two rushing touchdowns, including a 70-yarder in the first quarter.

Derby running back Arieus Finley had 16 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers held Maize South to 30 rushing yards. Easton Splane and Braesyn Williams each had an interception.

The Wichita Northwest Grizzlies took care of business against Wichita South, who came into the game at 4-0 in the City League to make this a key game for the City League title.

The Grizzlies were not phased, as they won 62-8.

Wichita Collegiate beat previously unbeaten Cheney 31-7 to push their record to 6-1 as well.

Moundridge won an overtime thriller against Sedgwick in an undefeated heavyweight matchup.

With the score 41-40, Moundridge got a clutch pass breakup at the goal line to keep their undefeated season alive.

Andale continued winning as usual, dominating Trinity Academy 67-0. Cooper Marx scored the game’s first four touchdowns, including a 22-yard pick six. He finished with 113 yards.

Maize won its third straight with a 37-7 win over Valley Center

Haven moves to 6-1 after a 42-7 win over Chaparral

After a 34-21 win over Ellinwood, Conway Springs continued its undefeated ways.

The Cardinals’ Logan Osner finished with 111 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Garden Plain got its second shutout on the season, beating Douglass 44-0 to improve to 5-2.

Hesston is 7-0 with a 28-0 win over Riley County.
