For Brogan Smith, the upcoming football season is about more than statistics, awards or postseason success. It is an opportunity to make the most of his final year playing high school football alongside the teammates and coaches who have helped shape his career.
“I’m most excited to spend my last year of high school football with all of my friends and coaches,” Smith said.
Smith enters his senior season at Frontenac High School after a standout junior campaign that earned him all-league, all-district and all-state honors, as well as a spot on the all-non-senior team.
He was productive both through the air and on the ground last season, throwing for 804 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 512 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Now, Smith is focused on becoming an even more complete player.
During the offseason, Smith has worked out five times a week while participating in summer weights and Frontenac’s summer football camp. His training has emphasized strength work and plyometrics as he prepares for the demands of another season.
A major area of focus has been his passing game. Although Smith does not have extensive experience throwing the football, he has committed to getting more comfortable as a passer by taking regular reps and working with his receivers.
“I’ve been throwing to receivers and taking passing reps seriously and learning from every throw,” Smith said.
That continued work has given Smith an opportunity to build confidence and improve an important part of his game heading into his final season.
Individually, Smith has set the bar high. He wants to repeat his success from last season and earn all-league, all-district and all-state recognition again.
But his biggest goals extend beyond individual honors.
As a team, Smith and his teammates are aiming for league and district championships while making the deepest playoff run possible.
“We want the league and district title and to go as far as we can in the playoffs,” Smith said.
With one final season ahead of him, Smith is determined to enjoy the experience while continuing to push himself and those around him. After a junior season filled with recognition and production, he hopes his senior campaign will provide an opportunity to leave an even bigger mark on Frontenac football.
