Cera Schenck, a senior and distance runner, is heading into her final track season for Frontenac High School with both excitement and gratitude. After four years in the program, she reflects on the strong bonds she has built with her teammates. Relationships, she says, have grown into something more like a family. For Schenck, this season is about more than just competition; it’s about making the most of every moment with the people who have supported her journey.
During the offseason, Schenck stayed committed to improving her performance. She competed in indoor track meets, consistently put in long runs, and focused on maintaining a positive mindset throughout her training. Rather than rushing the process, she embraced it, balancing hard work with an appreciation for the sport she loves.
One of Schenck’s biggest goals this year is to become more consistent in her training. She has worked to build trust in both her coaches and the workouts they design, recognizing that their guidance plays a key role in her development. “I’m really grateful to have such great coaches supporting me,” she shared with Vype Magazine. With a strong support system behind her, she feels confident in her ability to keep improving and pushing her limits.
Schenck has set both individual and team goals for her final season. Individually, she hopes to qualify for the state meet in events such as the 800, 1600, or 3200-meter races. As a team, she believes they have a strong chance of reaching state in the 4×800 relay. Schenck’s performances last year show her commitment to the sport, with personal records of 2:25 in the 800, 5:39 in the 1600, and 10:38 in the 4×800 relay.
Looking ahead, Schenck plans to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University, where she will continue competing in both track and cross country. She intends to major in nursing, with the goal of becoming a NICU nurse. In addition to track, Schenck also participates in cross country, continuing to pursue excellence in all she does.
