As a senior at Goddard High School, Madelyn Wilson is stepping into her final season with a clear focus. Wilson wants to be the best teammate and athlete she can be, while also helping younger players build a strong foundation for future success. A versatile player, Wilson serves as a setter, right-side/opposite hitter, and passer, offering her team a valuable mix of leadership while on the court.

With most of the varsity team is made up of freshmen, Wilson sees her role as more than just a player, she’s a mentor. “I’m excited to see my team grow and bond. They have time to grow as a person, teammate, athlete, student, and student athlete,” she says.

To work toward this season, Wilson’s commitment doesn’t stop at regular season practices. Over the summer, she pushed through intense early morning conditioning sessions led by head coach Micki Softheim and assistant coach Terry Anderson. “At the time, I didn’t want to get up every morning at 5:30, but I realize now that I am thankful for their harsh conditioning/workouts,” Wilson reflects.

Wilson is coming off a strong junior season with 310 attacks and 90 kills (29% kill rate). Her goal for senior year is to push her kill percentage to 60–70% and continue leading her team with passion and purpose.

Beyond Goddard volleyball, Wilson competes with ONEVA Volleyball Academy and is an active member of the National Honor Society. She’s also pursuing a welding certification through WSU Tech. After graduation Wilson is planning to study engineering in college while continuing to advance her technical skills.
