Goddard’s Sadie Bowyer – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Ken Hansard

Goddard High outfielder Sadie Bowyer grew up with two brothers who, through their competitive spirit, sparked Sadie’s competitive drive.  She started playing softball competitively at age four, and now, as a senior, she is ready to put the icing on the cake of an already impressive career for the Lions.

Bowyer has already signed with Neosho County to play softball in the fall, but for now, she is looking forward to one last go-around with her teammates and leaving her legacy on the program, “I am excited to play softball with my girls one more time and to grow as a team.”

Bowyer has been named Second Team All-League (AVCTL) the past two seasons.  Last year she received Honorable Mention All-State from Sports in Kansas.  She also helped lead the Lions to a conference championship (AVCTL-Division II) last spring.  Now her focus is on leading her younger charges and teaching them all about Goddard’s deep culture. “We are pretty young, so there is a learning curve, but I see myself as a leader this year. Many of our leaders from last year graduated, so I need to step up and lead.”

As for that final icing on the cake, Bowyer is excited to show that all her hard work has paid off, “I have been working on my hitting – individually and with my club team – during the offseason. I want to hit over .350 and play errorless defense in the outfield.  But the big goal is to help my teammates improve.  We’re pretty young, so I hope we will continue to improve throughout the season.”

When not on the diamond for the Lions, Sadie is very active in other areas of school life.  She plays basketball for the Lions.  She is the Student Council Class Vice President and FCCLA Secretary.  She is a member of KAY, Spirit Club, Spanish Club, and Goddard is a Goddard High Ambassador – a select group of students empowered to assist newcomers to the school.

Sadie is also a standout in the classroom, boasting a G.P.A. of 3.8. and she is also a member of the prestigious National Honors Society. While playing softball at Neosho County, she plans to obtain her nursing degree, with an end goal of entering a career as a cosmetic nurse.
