Hodgeman County Girls Track – Team Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

There’s something special about a team that returns seasoned athletes who know what it takes to reach the podium. That’s exactly the case for the Hodgeman County High School girls track team this spring. With three state placers back in the fold, the Lady Longhorns have high expectations—and the firepower to back them up.

“We return a strong group of upperclassmen that includes three state placers from last year,” said head coach Hunter Hope. “It’s a really solid core to build around.”

Seniors Kalyn Washburn and Blake Dansel headline the roster with impressive resumes. Washburn is a three-time state placer in javelin, and Dansel has twice finished as state runner-up in shot put. Dansel was also part of the 4×100 relay team that took second place her freshman year. Their leadership and experience are vital to Hodgeman County’s hopes for a big season.

Junior Blaire Bradford is another returning state medalist after placing eighth in the triple jump in 2024. Her continued development adds another weapon to the Longhorns’ already strong lineup.

But it’s not just the veterans that have coach Hope feeling optimistic. A promising group of freshmen are stepping into the spotlight, ready to contribute and push the team to new heights.

“We also look to add a strong group of freshmen to the mix to boost our ranks for the upcoming season,” Hope said. “We’re looking forward to fast times and big marks!”

With such a deep, motivated roster, Hodgeman County has the pieces in place for a memorable spring. The combination of experienced standouts and rising young talent gives the Lady Longhorns a balanced attack across the events.

Coach Hope summed it up best: “It’s a great group. They work hard, they support each other, and they know what it takes. We’re excited to see what they can accomplish this season.”

The goal is simple: race fast, throw far, jump high—and make another strong showing when it matters most.
