Senior Skylar Hottenstein of Humboldt High School is preparing for her final softball season with high expectations and a strong sense of purpose. A standout second baseman, Hottenstein has already established herself as one of the top players in her league, and she hopes to finish her high school career with both team and individual success.

Heading into the season, Hottenstein has set several goals for herself and her team. At the top of the list is helping Humboldt earn a state tournament appearance while also capturing the Tri-Valley League title. Achieving those goals would mark a special accomplishment for the team and reflect the hard work the program has put in throughout the year.

Individually, Hottenstein is aiming for another big season at the plate. She hopes to hit above .500 and earn a spot on the All-State team by the end of the year.

Hottenstein spent the offseason focusing on improving both her hitting and her strength. She worked consistently off of tees and spent time practicing her defensive skills. In addition to her on-field training, she also spent time in the gym working to gain muscle and improve her overall athletic performance.

Her commitment to improvement has already paid off. Last season, Hottenstein had an outstanding year, batting .500 and earning First Team All–Tri-Valley League honors. For her, those accomplishments represent the reward for the hours she spent working on her craft.

While she takes pride in her achievements, playing her final sport alongside friends she has grown up with is something she is especially looking forward to.

Hottenstein’s impact at Humboldt extends far beyond the softball field. She is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in volleyball and basketball, in addition to playing travel softball. She is also involved in school activities, serving as a member of FCA, FCCLA, NHS, and student council.

After graduation, Hottenstein plans to continue her education to major in biology to eventually become a dentist, continuing the same dedication and work ethic that have helped her succeed throughout high school.
