Senior leadership will take the mound this spring at Hutchinson High School as 12th-grader Gabriel Valadez prepares for his final season in Salthawk colors. A pitcher and utility player, Valadez brings versatility, experience, and a team-first mindset to a roster filled with young talent moving up to varsity.

“I am super excited to hit the field with all of my favorite teammates and encouraging them to have fun and do their best,” Valadez said. “It isn’t always about winning, although the wins will make it that much better,” he added.

Last season, Valadez recorded a .229 batting average with 16 hits, 16 RBIs, 11 runs, and 12 walks. On the mound, he logged 35 innings, faced 166 batters, and earned two wins. Opponents hit .267 against him as he continued to grow into a dependable arm. His efforts earned him Honorable Mention Utility Player of the Year honors.

Determined to elevate his game, Valadez has participated in several camps, committed to daily hitting and throwing routines, and increased his time in the gym. He has worked closely with Coach Reeves, focusing on long toss and mobility exercises.

His goals this season include earning All-State recognition as a pitcher, utility player, or both, while helping improve the team’s record from last year.

Beyond baseball, Valadez is well-rounded. He has played football, volunteers as a youth basketball coach, umpires Little League baseball and softball, referees flag football, and even enjoys ballet time with his 2-year-old niece.

In May, Valadez will graduate from Hutchinson Community College with Automotive Technology Certificates A&B and plans to pursue a business degree while continuing his baseball career at the collegiate level.
