Independence’s Brock Sanders – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Angela Brunk

At Independence High School, senior Brock Sanders is embracing his final baseball season with a strong sense of purpose and pride. A true utility player, Sanders brings versatility to the field, contributing as a catcher, pitcher, third baseman, and shortstop. His ability to adapt wherever he’s needed makes him a key piece of the team’s success.

What excites Sanders most this season is the familiarity within the roster. Having played alongside many of his teammates for years, he believes their shared experience has built strong chemistry and trust. That connection, he says, is one of the team’s greatest strengths heading into the season.

Sanders put in significant work during the offseason, focusing on hitting, tee work, and various drills to sharpen his skills. However, his preparation came with challenges. An injury in August forced him to adjust his routine and approach, making his offseason look different than planned. Despite that setback, he remained committed to improving and returning stronger.

After an impressive junior season where he hit .473, Sanders has set a personal goal to bat over .400 again. Beyond individual success, he’s focused on leadership. As a senior, he wants to step into a bigger leadership role and encourages his fellow seniors to do the same. He’s already noticed increased maturity and growth across the team, something he believes will translate into success on the field.

Team goals this year are to win the SEK and make a run to state. Off the field, Sanders stays busy playing basketball and working at a furniture store. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career path familiar to his family, though he remains open to the possibility of playing college baseball if the opportunity arises.
