Jaxson Campbell believes the foundation for a successful season is already being built at Kingman.
After a productive offseason in the weight room and on the practice field, Campbell is excited to see the Eagles put their preparation to the test when the season begins. The senior standout said the team’s commitment and effort during the summer have created a positive atmosphere heading into the fall.
“I love the way the team is competing in the weight room this summer,” Campbell said. “It’s looking awesome. I am very excited about seeing this team compete in games and practices.”
Campbell said he and the coaching staff have been working to develop a plan designed to help Kingman have a successful season. After putting in countless hours during the offseason, he believes the Eagles have the ability to change the outcome of their season and make a deep postseason run.
“We’ve put in a lot of work to change the outcome of this season,” Campbell said. “I am so excited to play with my teammates and try to lead them to a state title.”
Campbell has spent the offseason preparing himself to contribute on both sides of the ball. He has consistently attended summer weights to improve his strength while also studying opponents through film to better understand what he will see on game days.
Along with his work in the weight room and film room, Campbell has focused on improving his skills during football camps. He has worked on his route running offensively and becoming more aggressive defensively during Kingman’s six days of summer football camp.
One of Campbell’s biggest priorities entering the season is helping develop a stronger team culture. He wants leadership to come from every player, not just those wearing a captain’s title.
“I want to make it to where the players do a lot of stuff together, as a team, so we can all get better and build our chemistry with each other,” Campbell said. “I don’t want just our captains to be the vocal ones. I want the whole team to know that they can be a leader without having to be a captain.”
Campbell has already worked to create that mindset in the weight room by encouraging teammates and helping bring energy to workouts each day. He believes a team-wide commitment to leadership can make the Eagles stronger throughout the season.
“My goal is to make sure everyone in our weight room, even non-football players, are vocal, give energy, and make weights fun and loud,” Campbell said.
Last season, Campbell made an impact for Kingman on both offense and defense. He recorded 19 receptions for 247 yards and a touchdown while contributing 38 tackles, 22 assists, one sack, nine tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one interception on defense.
Heading into his senior season, Campbell wants to become a more complete player while helping the Eagles reach new heights. His goals include being more effective on the field, competing at a higher level and helping the team accomplish something that has not happened during his high school football career.
“My major goal this season is to play as a team and not think I have to do everything on the field,” Campbell said. “I want to be better and more effective on the field than I was last year.”
