Maize South’s Joe Binger – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Matt Browning

Maize South senior golfer Joe Binger has set his sights high for his final high school season, with goals centered on both individual and team success.

“My primary focus for my senior season is to place top 5 at state, and win state as a team,” Binger said.

Binger enters the season coming off a strong 2025 campaign in which he posted a 76.5 scoring average, earned four top-five finishes, won the AVCTL Division I league title, and placed 12th at the Class 5A state tournament. He also earned 5A All-State honorable mention recognition.

One of Binger’s key strengths is his ability to recover when shots don’t go as planned, along with consistent distance off the tee.

“I consider the strengths of my game to be my distance off the tee, and scrambling to get myself out of bad situations,” he said. “My scrambling can be good if I need to make par for my team in a late-round situation.”

In preparation for his senior year, Binger focused on improving his mindset and staying present throughout rounds, rather than dwelling on mistakes.

“Some things I wanted to work on this off-season was my mentality,” he said. “I worked on putting all of my energy into the next shot, and not letting the last one linger.”

As for team expectations, Binger emphasized consistent improvement and competing for a championship.

“A successful season for our team would be to work hard and get better every day and ultimately win a championship,” he said.
