Maize’s Grace Swart – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Senior Grace Swart of Maize High School is heading into her final high school softball season. A key contributor to the Eagles since her freshman year, Swart has spent four seasons on the varsity roster and is looking to make the most of her final opportunity to compete alongside her teammates.

Swart plays two important roles for her team as both a pitcher and a first baseman. As a senior, she is especially excited to use the experience she has gained over the past four years to help lead and support the younger players on the team.

“I’m really excited to make the most of my final high school softball season and give it everything I have,” Swart said. “I’m looking forward to competing, continuing to improve my game, and doing whatever I can to help the team succeed.”

During the offseason, Swart committed significant time to improving her skills. She regularly attended pitching and hitting lessons, and between lessons, she also worked on drills provided by her coaches, helping her strengthen different aspects of her game.

One area Swart has focused heavily on improving is her mental approach. Throughout the offseason, she practiced staying mentally locked in during drills and simulated game situations, working to block out distractions and remain confident in every moment.

Looking ahead to the season, Swart has both team and individual goals in mind. As a team, the Eagles are aiming to compete at the highest level and make a strong run toward the state tournament. Individually, Swart hopes to continue improving her pitching performance while maintaining a strong batting average. At first base, she is focused on playing solid defense, making smart decisions, and helping her team stay strong in the field.

After graduation, Swart plans to continue both her academic and softball careers at Barton Community College, where she will study with the goal of becoming a NICU nurse.

Outside of softball, Swart enjoys spending time with her large family and staying active through activities like swimming, pickleball, walking, and trips to Topgolf Wichita. And like many students, she also enjoys unwinding by playing Fortnite with friends.
