Focusing more on the mental aspect of things this season senior Alivia Villalobos wants to make her last season of soccer one to enjoy.

One way Villalobos is working to make this season special is by helping create a family dynamic at McPherson that will pick you up when you are down.

“My goal as an individual is to always give 100 percent and to keep on going even when it gets hard. My goal as a team is to get to state and also to become a family, becoming a family first will help us get to state,” Villalobos said.

Villalobos, who played attacking midfielder last year scored seven goals and had two assists, helping her team to a third place finish at state. Despite her skill as a soccer player, her confidence still waivers.

“One area I am wanting to improve on is being more confident,” Villalobos said. “I have worked on this in the offseason by going out of my comfort zone to go do group activities with working out and getting touches on the ball. I also gained more confidence by getting to know everyone a little bit more.”

McPherson head coach Chris Adrian also gives Villalobos high praise for her skill and vision on the field.

“She has the ability to see and execute passes that most players can’t. She’s one of those players that plays free with lots of creativity and it’s a joy to watch. She’s a special player,” Adrian said.
