Minneapolis’ Oliver White – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by D&M Body Shop

After a breakout junior season, Minneapolis senior Oliver White is looking to take another step forward this fall.

White is especially excited about something he has not experienced during his high school career: competing with a full team.

“I am most excited to be able to run with a full team,” White said. “That’s something that I’ve never been able to experience during my high school career, and I’m looking forward to the guys.”

White has spent the offseason preparing for the demands of another cross-country season. His work has included time in the weight room, conditioning camps and putting in additional miles during the summer.

One of his primary focuses has been improving his offseason preparation, particularly his endurance.

“An area I’ve been wanting to improve is better offseason training,” White said. “To improve that I’ve been in the weight room, and I ran a lot more than the past offseason, mainly trying to focus on training my endurance.”

That preparation comes after a junior season in which White consistently improved throughout the year. He recorded a personal record in nearly every meet, placed in every in-season competition and earned first-team all-league honors.

White’s biggest finishes included a third-place showing at the league meet and sixth place at regionals, which earned him a spot at the state meet.

At state, White again lowered his personal record, running 17:41 and finishing 32nd.

That performance has given White extra motivation heading into his senior season.

“An individual goal for the season is medaling at state,” White said. “I got 32nd last year and that’s been a really good motivation to do so.”

While White has set an individual goal for himself, he also wants to help Minneapolis establish itself early as a team.

“A team goal is running good in the early season, so we can set ourselves up for a successful attempt,” White said.
