Oberlin’s Tyler Ostmeyer – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance

By Blake Chadwick

Oberlin High School junior Tyler Ostmeyer is having a standout season, averaging 17 points, 12 rebounds, and nearly 3 blocks per game for the Red Devils. His performance on both ends of the court has been a key factor in the team’s success.

“Tyler is a great basketball player. He uses his 6’5″ height effectively as a post player, and he’s smart, hardworking, and competitive,” head coach Kyle Breth said. “He leads our team in points and rebounds per game. He’s also one of the most coachable kids I’ve been around—always striving to improve. As a person, Tyler is someone I can always count on to do the right thing and to support his teammates and family. I’m very proud of the young man he has become, and he has such a bright future ahead of him.”

Last season, Ostmeyer earned All-State Honorable Mention recognition, and he’s determined to add even more to his résumé this year—a journey that began in the offseason when he played AAU basketball in Nebraska. Competing at a high level during the summer helped him refine his skills and grow as a player.

“My personal goals this year are to be one of the best players in the NWKL and make an All-State team,” Ostmeyer said. “Another big goal is to become a better leader. Over the past couple of years, that’s something the team has really needed, and I know I have to step up more.”

With the Red Devils already surpassing last season’s win total, Ostmeyer and his teammates continue to build momentum. As he looks ahead to a potential collegiate career, he knows the hard work doesn’t stop here so don’t be surprised when the junior leads his team to a deep playoff push.
