Oxford senior Logan Gaither says is about one final opportunity to take the field with the teammates he’s grown up alongside.
“What I am excited about most for this up-and-coming season is my team,” Gaither said. “This year is the first year that obviously we are all seniors and will be our last year to play together as friends and a family. I’m just so happy that I get to be playing with my teammates for one last time.”
Gaither enters his senior season after putting together an outstanding junior campaign. He rushed for 1,202 yards while averaging 10.1 yards per carry and scoring 20 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 93 total tackles, including 26 solo stops and 67 assisted tackles.
His performance earned him first-team South Central Border League honors on both offense and defense, first-team all-district recognition on both sides of the ball and honorable mention all-state honors.
Despite those accolades, Gaither isn’t satisfied.
“The area I want to improve on most is my explosiveness and my speed because that is really my most limiting factor right now,” he said.
To address those areas, Gaither has committed himself to an offseason routine that begins long before sunrise.
“How I have been preparing for this up-and-coming season is going to weights held by our coach every morning at six,” he said. “Then after I get off work, I do a small plyometric at-home workout to help me be more explosive for next year.”
Gaither has set ambitious goals for his final high school season. Individually, he hopes to eclipse the 1,500-yard rushing mark while helping lead the Wildcats on a deep postseason run.
“My individual goal for this year is to rush for 1,500 yards,” Gaither said. “I believe this is a good goal for myself to really just be a better athlete. Our team goal is to make it past the third round and to the championship, maybe win it.”
