Salina South’s Chase Freeman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Visit Salina

By Matt Browning

Chase Freeman focused his season on becoming a reliable contributor to the Salina South varsity golf roster, aiming to help the team post competitive scores and advance toward state competition.

“My primary focus on the season was being a strong part of the varsity roster, one that would help the overall team with scores to get to state,” Freeman said.

Freeman said his biggest strength on the course is his mental approach to the game.

“I consider my mindset to be my greatest strength,” Freeman said. “I can easily remain calm and collected, and this allows me to avoid many mental barriers. Golf is very mental, and keeping a good attitude is necessary to play well and give competitive scores to my team.”

To improve his consistency, Freeman dedicated extra time to refining his ball striking on the driving range.

“I wanted to work on my consistency,” Freeman said. “Sometimes I can play great, and at other times I look like I’ve never touched a club in my life. To acquire this I spent a lot of time on the range working on my ball striking.”

Freeman defined a successful season as maintaining scores in the low 80s to low 90s while helping Salina South compete at a high level.

“A successful season for me would be to have me shoot in the low 90’s or 80’s,” Freeman said. “This would mean I’m able to contribute well, and hopefully we can make it far in state again.”
