Southeast of Saline’s Kanyon Douglas – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Salina Ortho

By Blake Chadwick

Southeast of Saline senior sprinter Kanyon Douglas has spent the last four years building a reputation defined by effort, consistency and a constant push to improve.

As a senior, Douglas competes primarily in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay, where his mindset has always centered on one thing: getting better every time he steps on the track.

“My strengths are working hard and pushing myself to be the best I can be,” Douglas said.

That approach has shaped his career and helped him reach one of his key highlights so far, qualifying for the state meet in the 4×100 relay.

“My goals are to win league and regionals,” Douglas said.

That shared expectation has helped set the tone for a program built on winning.

Looking beyond high school, Douglas plans to take a different path from athletics at the next level. He will attend McPherson College to study automotive restoration, with long-term goals of graduating and eventually opening his own restoration shop.

Even without continuing sports in college, Douglas leaves no doubt about how he views his final season. He appreciates the recognition from his coach and the trust placed in his work ethic.

“I try to push myself every day, and it is set in my brain to always do everything I can to be at my best and keep going past that,” he said.
